Converting a SUV into Sur
Converting a SUV into a Surveying Vehicle
Start With a SUV. In this case it is my wife's old car with 140,000 miles (she gets the new car)
The back compartment is about 3'X4'. Most SUVs are about the same size.

Unless you have the extra large SUV you could only fit the tripods at an angle as shown. Check how yours would fit so you can take your measurements.

Get a 3/4" plywood cut to size to fit in the back of the. Cut blocks 9" high for the plywood to set upon as shown. Screw down flush from the top.

Add strips of wood to prevent equipment from sliding back and forth. Then paint desired color.

Set new rack as shown and slide tripods as shown underneath. The blocks keep them from rolling back and forth.

Arrange the rest of your equipment as desired.

I carry the total station in the backseat along with the data collector. When not surveying they are kept in the office.

A good surveying vehicle with four wheel drive for under $5,000.

With good care it should last 5 years.
